Abstract

Geography of music is a separate field within Cultural geography, which focuses on production and consumption of music as a spatial and temporal phenomenon along with ongoing process of evolution of human habitat. The interdisciplinary character of the subject makes it suitable to involve methodologies from other disciplines as well. This study focuses on describing Geography of Music, and deriving geographical aspects of folk music in light of its producers, consumers and spatial pattern in specific area. The research paper has adopted qualitative methodology in order to achieve its objective, and try to incorporate relationship between Biraha folk music and its historical and geographical aspects, related to a specific region of Varanasi, where this music has connections with the mode of production in life and space.
